Alva Cemetery


Alva – The funeral for Roberta Allene Towns, 92, will be 10:30 AM Tuesday in Alva First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Weegie Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Alva Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are by Marshall Funeral Home.

She was born February 13, 1911, in Sheldon, Missouri, to Harry C. and Margaret Ann Gonterman Moore and died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Share Medical Center in Alva.

She attended school at Pratt, Kansas. On August 14, 1933, she married Harley Daniel Towns at Syracuse, Kansas. They lived in Lakin, Kansas, until 1940, then moved to Pierceville, Kansas. In 1946 they moved to Genoa, Colorado, and farmed until retirement in 1985. Then moved to Alva. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Alva, Busy Bee HCE Club and active with Woods County Senior Citizens Center.

Surviving are three sons, Ed of Alva, Roy of Westminster, Colorado, and Ken of Florissant, Colorado; one daughter, Barbara Jean Goodwin of Westminster; one brother, Bob Lear of Pratt; nine grandchildren; and 23 great – grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on August 22, 1993, one great – grandson; and eight brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Woods County Senior Citizens Center.
