Bernetta Lorraine (Herd) Kendrick was born December 23, 1923, on a farm west of Buttermilk, Kansas, to Jesse James and Bernice Herd and passed away on February 4, 2022 in Oklahoma City at the age of 98 years, 1 month and 12 days.

Lorraine attended school at Protection High School and went on to attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University (in the territory, as her father would call Oklahoma) where she met Robert Carey Kendrick. Bob was soon deployed to Africa and Europe for three years. Lorraine and Bob kept up correspondence through the war and married soon after his discharge and made their home in Alva. Lorraine and Bob were married for 67 years until is passing in 2012. Lorraine had several different jobs in banking and at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Lorraine was the financial secretary for the formation of Oklahoma Northwest Area Vocational-Technical School and retired from this position in 1986. Lorraine and Bob had many enjoyable years of traveling with friends and family after their retirements.

Lorraine was an avid reader and talented artist. Many of her friends and family have enjoyed her gifts of scherenschnitte projects and needlework. Lorraine was a member of the D.A.R, Holly Club, PEO, and a member of Alva's First Presbyterian Church.

Lorraine is survived by sons Randy (Lynda), Rick (Dani), and Ron (Gina); grandchildren Kris (Adrienne), Kara Anderson (Matt), Dan Ann Mills (Daughter Kylee) Lynnsey McFarland (Daniel), Ricky Kendrick Jr.; sister Barbara Crane; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial contributions can be sent to the First Presbyterian Church, the Northwest Technology Center Foundation Kendrick Scholarship or NWOSU Foundation.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Alva Municipal Cemetery in Alva. Following the graveside service, a small service and reception are planned at the Presbyterian Church also in Alva.
