Bretch Kelso Williams was born June 25, 1914, in Cordell, Oklahoma, the son of Anderson Hurd and Minnie Olds Williams. He was one of seven children, which included Quay, Patti, Kelso, Claudine, Margaret Ann, A.H., Jr. and Betti.

Kelso attended school in Cordell until his parents moved to Abilene, Texas, so their children could attend college at Abilene Christian University. Kelso attended Abilene Christian for two years.

Kelso married Beatrice Hawkins on November 9, 1941, and to this union was born one daughter, Joan Williams of Edmond, Oklahoma.

Kelso served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941-1945 and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1954. He attained the rank of Captain in the Air Force before his discharge in 1954.

After his military tenure, Kelso and his family moved to Poteau, Oklahoma where he worked for Plastics, Inc. from 1954-1958. At that time he moved back to Cordell where he operated the Cordell Steak House until 1963. From 1963 until he retired in 1974, Kelso was the manage of the Student Union at Panhandle State University. At that time, he and Beatrice moved to Crawford, Oklahoma, where he was finally able to fulfill a life long desire to farm. Kelso also loved to build things and do carpentry work. He actually built the house in which he and Beatrice lived on the farm in Crawford. In 1980, Beatrice preceded him in death, and Kelso moved to Oklahoma City with his daughter Joan.

On September 17, 1983, Kelso married Arlene Crawford and moved to Roswell, New Mexico where he and Arlene made their home until his death on May 6, 2001.

Kelso is survived by his wife Arlene Crawford Williams, his daughter, Joan Williams; four step children, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Crawford, Mr. and Mrs. Troy Crawford, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Green and Nancy Crawford; 8 step grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, one sister, Betti Greenhaw and her husband Richard, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services at the Cordell Cemetery are pending. McClure Funeral Home in Cordell may be contacted for details.
