Frederick (Tom, Tommy, Papa, Poppy, and PaPaw), Thomas Marshall was born August 31, 1936, at his family's home in Porum, OK to Frank and Bytha (Norton) Marshall.  He lost his 2 year battle with a rare lung disease, Idiopathis Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) at his home near Elk City, OK. Tom had a long and dedicated career in the oil patch and started driving a truck for Flynn, Welch, Yates at the age of 12 years old. At the age of 16 years old he went to work for a pulling unit then proceeded to quit high school at the age of 17 years old to work full-time.  In 1962 work took him to Perryton, TX where he stopped into a cafe and met a pretty waitress by the name of Prentiss Gail Whaley who turned out to be the love of his life. They married and moved to Raceland, LA and had their eldest son, Lloyd (Wes) Wesley Marshall soon after. In 1965 Hurricane Betsy forced them to move to the Ft. Stockton/Odessa, TX area where he became employed by Rowan Drilling as a tool pusher. Around 1970 he was transferred to Oklahoma to drill several deep wells in the Sayre area. He then went to work for Continental Drilling out of Tyler, TX as the operations Manager for the Elk City, OK branch until the oil bust forced it's closing. Tom and Gail had their youngest son, Thomas (T.W.) Wesley Marshall while living in Elk City, OK. Lastly, Tom went to work for Apache Corporation as the drilling superintendent for just shy of 25 years until his retirement in 2008 after a severe stroke. He was a pioneer in the oil field and has many accolades from his successes. He knew an Oil Rig and its workings from top to bottom. Tom was a very hardworking intelligent man with an unwavering ethical standard. He was a family centered man who built his life around his career and devoted every spare moment to his family or watching a good football game, especially if his beloved team, the Dallas Cowboys. Even when work took him away for long hours and days, he checked in with his family daily and you could set your watch to his phone calls. Above all he was the sweetest man you could ever come across and always treated others with respect and kindness. He is greatly loved and will be greatly missed.  

He was preceded in death by his wife: Prentiss (Gail); parents: Frank and Bytha; 1 half-brother: Jim; 3 half-sisters: Evelyn, Maxine, and Linda; 1 step brother: Sunny, and 1 step sister: Sue. 

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Wes and Sonja Marshall; granddaughter:  Tasha Marshall; honorary granddaughter: Jaryn Rainey; granddaughter: Krystal Milkeraitis and her husband: Wes; great -granddaughter: Wrigley, and great-grandson:  Soldier; son and daugher-in-law: T.W. and wife Kellie Marshall; granddaughters:  Camryn and Casady Marshall; half brother, Mike Mossburg, and half sister, Donna Bochman, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Elk City United Methodist Church with Pastor Scott Rodgers officiating.

Interment will follow at Canute Cemetery.  
 

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 7, and Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Whinery Funeral Service, Elk City.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Elk City United Methodist Church.
