Ira L. Keithley dies; Oct. 10, 1961 Services here Friday:
Ira L. Keithley, 83, resident of this area since 1895, died at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday in the Washington County Memorial Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past several years.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Arnold Moore Funeral Residence chapel. Rev. John Norton, of Shidler, will officiate and Interment will be in White Rose Cemetery.
Mr. Keithley was born Dec. 26, 1877 in Stone co., Missouri, near the Branson-Springfield area, where he received his normal schooling. He delivered mail by horseback for the United States Postal Service in the rural Springfield area and was later active in farming.
He came to Indian Territory in 1895 and made his home in the Osage Nation, near Pawhuska, before moving to Bartlesville. He was married to Mrs. Katie Armstrong in Bartlesville. She died Dec. 16, 1929. Following his marriage to Mrs. Rose Cole on July 26, 1933, they have continued making their home in Bartlesville. Mr. Keithley was in the carpenter trade here for more than 50 years prior to his retirement in 1953.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rose J. Keithley, of the home: two daughters, Mrs. Irene Chastine and Mrs. Harry Armstrong: both live in Las Vegas, Nev.: five step-daughters, Mrs. Addie Bounds, of Bartlesville; Mrs. V. N. Riley, Fresco, Calif.; Mrs. W. M. Haines, Copan; Mrs. Irmel Peppard, of Tuttle, Okla.; and Mrs. Grover Sattlemyre, of Caruthers, Calif.; two step-sons, Dewey Armstrong, of Las Vegas and Joe Cole, of Stilwell, Okla.; and one sister, Mrs. Emma Martin of Vacaville, Calif.
He died from cancer of the nose.
