(permission granted)

Joy L. Mason McGuire was born in Benton, Kansas to Otis Wesley and Mary Evoline Wallace Mason on November 19, 1927. She entered into eternal rest on June 7, 2016.

Her early years were spent in Sedgwick County, Kansas where she was reared in a devout home embracing the Church of God Holiness faith. She was graduated from North High in Wichita. Joy attended college at Chicago Evangelistic Institute and Wichita’s Friends University. Subsequently she served as pastor of the Keystone Pilgrim Holiness Church and as teacher of grades one through eight in rural western Kansas.

On August 9, 1951, Joy Mason eloped with the love of her life, Donald McGuire. A daughter Donna and son Duane were born to this union. Joy spent the ensuing years primarily as a homemaker. After the children were in school, she worked at a variety of jobs, most notably nurse’s aide and caregiver.

Joy will be remembered as a night owl. She loved to drink coffee, wear high heels, work on jigsaw puzzles, and enter contests. Additionally, she enjoyed supporting her children’s endeavors, attending Antique Car Club, participating in Gideon’s Auxiliary, and traveling with Don on behalf of his service to Lion’s Club.

Joy McGuire was preceded in death by her parents, all 10 of her siblings, and grandson Jeremiah Dickens.

Joy is survived by husband Don of Bartlesville, daughter Donna and husband Robert Cooper of Whitewright, Texas, and son Duane McGuire and wife Terry of Columbia, Missouri, as well as grandchildren: Marybeth Trzebiatowski (Brian), Joshua Dickens (Kristina), Jennifer Dickens, Jonathan Dickens (Stacey), Joseph Dickens, and Bridget Hopewell (Duncan), along with step-grandchildren Bethany Cinotto, Travis and Jared Cooper. Joy had beloved great-grandchildren: Hannah, Micah, Jonah, Judah, Josiah, Joelle, and Kaylee Dickens; Ilaena, Audrey, and Matthew Trzebiatowski. Joy is also survived by extended family including brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joy leaves a legacy of devotion to her family, appreciation for art and music, and dedication to reading the Bible.

Joy’s family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Friday, June 10, from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Sooner Park Wesleyan Church, 6200 Baylor Drive, Bartlesville, OK 74006 or to The Gideons, PO BOX 3143, Bartlesville, OK 74006.
