Betty McMillen, 86, longtime Ramona resident, died Monday in Tulsa.

Betty Ruth McMillen was born the daughter of Roy K. and Dorothy Ellen (King) Symonds on Aug. 11, 1932, in Ramona, OK. When she was young, the family moved to California and lived there for several years before returning home to Ramona. Betty attended the local schools and loved dancing. She met the love of her life Arthur Dale McMillen at the café where she worked. They were united in marriage on May 29, 1948, and made their home in Ramona. They built their current home in 1964 and Betty lived there for more than 50 years. Arthur preceded her in death after 54 years of loving marriage in 2002. Betty loved people and especially loved taking care of her grandbabies. While the kids were growing up, Sunday dinners were an important tradition and Betty fried up chicken and other dishes for the extended family. She always worried about the young and not-so-young. "Nanny Grandma Betty" loved all the neighborhood kids and they loved her back. She also looked after the elderly, visiting them and helping them get around. Betty and Arthur enjoyed spending time together, watching tv shows at home or shopping the garage sales. Betty enjoyed taking care of her home and garden, mowing her own yard and planting flowers. She put out bird feeders and hummingbirds often visited her front porch.

Betty is survived by five children, Sharon and Dean Walden, Jimmy Dale and Kay McMillen, and Larry Edward McMillen, all of Ramona, Linda Kay and Morris Brown of Enid, Karen Sue Horning of Bartlesville; two sisters Ardith "Corky" Willis of Van Alstyne, TX, and Nancy and Francis Kelly of Pawhuska; 15 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and 14 great great grandchildren.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Wanda Louise Wendt, brother Roberts Joe Symonds, and grandson Tommy Joe Field.

A graveside service was held on Oct. 27, 11 a.m. at Ramona Cemetery with Rev. Tom Cox officiating. Services were under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Walker Brown Chapel.

Online condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
