(permission granted)
Mordica "Junior" Moody, 91, of Bartlesville, died Friday, August 14, in Bartlesville, surrounded by his loving wife Leanne and stepdaughter Kara.
Born in Torpedo Switch, Oklahoma, Junior spent most of his life in the Bartlesville area, including more than 50 years on his 70-acre farm at Ogelsby. He moved to Dewey in 2018 before returning to Bartlesville during the final six months of his life.
Junior completed the eighth grade and built a remarkable life through hard work, skill, and determination. He proudly served six years in the United States Army. Following his military service he worked for Overlees-Woods in Bartlesville for 63 years before retiring in 2000 and spent more than 50 years building and remodeling homes. He also volunteered throughout the Bartlesville community on many occasions.
A talented woodworker and mechanic, Junior loved car racing, motorcycles, horses, cattle, and his dogs. Above all, he treasured his family and friends. He enjoyed meeting the guys at Sal's Donuts for coffee, donuts, and lively conversations about how they might solve the city's-and the world's-problems. Among his many cherished friends were Jay, Francis, Scott, and Lesley McKissick, with whom he shared an 83-year friendship with the McKissick family, as well as his friend of 50 years, Verl Fouts.
Junior especially treasured a memorable trip to Georgia with his wife, Leanne. Their journey was filled with laughter, unexpected detours, museum searches, and visits to the Precious Moments Chapel, Museum and Loretta Lynn's Ranch.
Junior demonstrated his love through service and steadfast devotion. He cared for his first wife, Ruth, and her sister, Betty, until their deaths. He later stood faithfully beside his wife Leanne throughout her battle with breast cancer, cooking for her when she was ill and supporting her through thick and thin. He also helped his brothers, sisters, and anyone else in need. Junior's generous heart, capable hands, humor, and unwavering devotion will be deeply missed by many.
Junior was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth; his parents, Mordica Anderson and Mary Leona "Mardis" Moody; sisters, Gladys Wright and Ima June Hayes; and brothers, Melvin Lee, Walter Lee, Kenneth Carl, Thomas Jefferson, Alfred Andrew, and Elmer Franklin.
