Billy Joe Smith
June 18, 1939 - September 8, 2022

Billy Joe Smith, of Bartlesville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior early Thursday morning. Joe was born on June 18, 1939, in Foraker, Oklahoma, to William and Mollie Smith. A rancher since birth, he cowboyed on Drummond Ranch during his youth, and was foreman at Kane Redbird Ranch, located south of Bartlesville, until his retirement.

Joe's proudest and greatest accomplishment in life was becoming a Christian. He came to faith in his early 30s, and from that point on, not a moment went by that he wasn't sharing the Word of Jesus. He continued to share the Gospel until his dying breath.

Joe was a member of the Cherokee Nation. There is no word for goodbye in the Cherokee language, so we say "donadagohvi (ᏙᎾᏓᎪᎲᎢ)" or "until we meet again."

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Barbara Veach Smith, brother John Smith, and grandson Karl King III. He is survived by wife Linda Bernard Smith, daughter Linda Smith King and husband Karl, granddaughter Kelcey King Nobles, granddaughter Ariel King Ewing and husband Jackson, sisters Ann Briggs and Judy Webster, plus many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, September 12, at Virginia Avenue Baptist Church in Bartlesville. A graveside service will follow immediately after the church service at the Ochelata Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been set up for Virginia Avenue Baptist Church's food pantry, of which Joe actively served.
