Mr. John Earl Underwood, 88, of Bartlesville, died at 9:48 A.M. on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center.

Funeral services for Mr. Underwood will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the East Bartlesville Christian Church with Michael Harris of the Beams of Light in Sapulpa officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery where military rites will be accorded and directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.

The Underwood family will receive guests for visitation at the Stumpff Funeral Home on Friday from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M.

Mr. Underwood was born at Mount Ida, Arkansas on April 2, 1929 the son of Oscar Edward and Bertie Mae (Bledsoe) Underwood. He grew up in Forrester, Arkansas and he graduated from high school at Monroe, Oklahoma and then worked on the railroad and clearing timber in southeastern Oklahoma and northern Texas. He entered the U.S. Army on March 3, 1951 and served 14 months in Korea. Following his Honorable Discharge on February 18, 1953 he returned to Oklahoma and was employed with Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa. He later became employed with the U.S. Postal service as a postal carrier for a number of years until his retirement in 1989. He loved to fish and play guitar as well as attending his grandchildren’s activities and ballgames. He was a member of East Bartlesville Christian Church.

Mr. Underwood is survived by two daughters, Jan Brady and husband John of Barnsdall, and Karen Lutke and husband Rod of Bartlesville, four grandchildren, Janet Townley and husband Mike, Jill Blevins and husband Jerry, Lance Lutke and wife Katie, and Chris Lutke and wife Heather, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
