"Horace" Justin Thomas, Sr., age 86 and longtime Bartlesville resident, passed away on January 29, 2019 in St. John Medical Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Horace was born on November 18, 1932 in Magnolia, Arkansas. He was the son of William Ransom Thomas, Sr. and Lola Dean (Jenkins) Thomas. He grew up in Magnolia where he received his education. He was a high school graduate of Magnolia. After high school, he furthered his education by attending Southern State College in Magnolia where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He had a scholarship for football and played baseball. During summers at college, he played baseball for the Pine Bluff and Hope, Arkansas where he served on their police forces. Upon graduation, he volunteered for the U.S. Army. Upon his honorable discharge from the service, Horace returned to Arkansas, later moving to Louisiana. In Louisiana, he worked for Superior Iron Works in Shreveport. This is where he met his wife-to-be, Anne Harp. The couple married and made their first home in Shreveport. In 1964, Horace accepted a position in the Marketing Department of Philips Petroleum Company. The Company moved them to Texas at that time, later transferring them to Bartlesville in 1973. In Bartlesville, Horace and Anne were long-time members of the First United Methodist Church (now Bartlesville First church). Horace was also a member of the Downtown Kiwanis and a member of Toastmasters. He always loved baseball, but he also played softball. He was a wood carver, making many beautiful art pieces. Other interests included fishing and camping. He was a wonderful storyteller and enjoyed making people laugh. When it came to cooking, his specialty was grilling and smoking meat.

Horace was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anne; daughter, Belinda Anne Thomas (deceased February 1995); and brothers, Bill Thomas and David Thomas.

He is survived by his son, H. Justin Thomas and his wife, Sherry, of Bartlesville; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn Thomas, Logan Thomas and Emma Thomas;

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Horace's memory to Bethel Faith Children's Home & Training Center, a Christian school and Orphanage in Londiani, Kenya, Africa. Donations can be sent to the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave., Bartlesville, OK 74003 and we will forward them to the proper address.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 2, at 10:00 AM in Bartlesville First Church, 4715 Price Rd., Bartlesville. Pastor Sam McCullough will be the officiant.

Interment will follow at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery, Bartlesville. Arrangements for Mr. Thomas were under the direction of the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, Bartlesville.
