Mary "Susie" Sue Smith
March 8, 1943 - December 8, 2022

Mary Sue "Susie" Smith, 79, of Bartlesville, died Thursday in Bartlesville. She is "celebrated" by the love of her life Tim, their precious children, grandchildren, great grandson, and family and friends who will remember her loving heart and the exceptional care she took of everyone and everything she touched.

Susie was born the daughter of George Edgar Jr. and Agnes Juanita (Sas) Mader on March 8, 1943, in Bartlesville. During World War II, while her father was serving overseas and her mother was ill, Susie stayed with Aunt Bernice. It was during this time that Uncle Tom tagged her with the nickname Susie.

Susie was educated in the Dewey schools and even though she noticed Tim Smith from a young age, it wasn't until 11th grade that she asked him to accompany her to the Sadie Hawkins Dance. They quickly became high school sweethearts, graduating with the Bulldogger Class of 1961. They united in marriage on September 29, 1961, making their home in the Bartlesville area.

From 1970-'76, Tim's job transferred the family to London. After adjusting to the new culture, Susie found a passion for needlepoint and studied at the Royal Academy for Needlework. With the girls Brenda and Julie, the family took many memorable trips all over Europe during this exciting time. Upon returning home Susie discovered a new passion for gardening and soon became a master gardener. She didn't do things in half measure - she not only joined the Washington County Master Gardeners, she served as chairman for both the Washington County fair booth and the WCMG annual plant sales. Susie also loved to read and research. She was active with the Washington County Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and served as chairman of the Conservation Committee.

Susie was an active mother, participating in her girls' activities and even served as a Girl Scout leader, and Susie did everything - other than camping, is where she drew the line. With the grandchildren and great grandson, she enjoyed making her sugar cookies, and watching them decorate them for Christmas each year. Susie managed everyone in the family with her paddle shaped like a heart, fortunately she never had to use it. Although she was busy with her many activities, Tim always felt he had her complete and faithful attention. They did everything together and enjoyed 61 years of loving marriage. Susie was dearly loved and her family will cherish her memory.

Susie is survived by her husband Tim; children Brenda (James) Majors, Julie (Gary) Long; siblings Betty (Mike) Miller and George Mader III; grandchildren Tori Majors, Justin Majors, Brian Long, Kyle Long and Steven Long; great grandson Jacob Majors and a host of other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12-8, at the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory - Walker Brown Chapel, 4201 Nowata Road, Bartlesville, OK. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Journey Home, 900 NE Washington Blvd., Bartlesville, OK 74006.

Services will be held on Thursday, at 10 a.m., at the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory - Walker Brown Chapel, with Chaplin Tyler Vaclaw officiating. Pallbearers are Steven Long, Justin Majors, Jim Majors, Gary Long, Nathan Reedy, and Kyle Long. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory - Walker Brown Chapel.
