Robert "Bob" Louis Oborny
April 15, 1940 - December 1, 2022

Robert Louis Oborny was born on a farm near Tampa, Kansas, on April 15, 1940. He was the fifth son of John Francis and Elsie F. (Huna) Oborny. He attended a one-room elementary school about a mile from home. Bob graduated from Tampa Rural High School in 1958 as class valedictorian. He excelled in fast-pitch softball, basketball, and baseball. He graduated Cum Laude from St. Benedict's College (now Benedictine College) in 1962 where he majored in Mathematics and minored in Physical Science and Education.

Bob met Judy Duggan in high school and their first date was a Halloween hayrack ride. They were married on June 9, 1962, and moved to Topeka, Kansas, where Bob took his first job as a Math teacher. Bob was selected Teacher of the Year for his school in 1964 and 1966. He coached football, basketball, track and tennis. Bob and Judy's two children, Janice and Robert Michael (Mike), were born in Topeka.

Bob completed his Master of Arts degree in Mathematics from Emporia State University in 1967 after 3 years of weekly commuting and intensive summer course work. In 1968, Bob was hired by Phillips Petroleum Company as a computer programmer, and he moved his family to Bartlesville. He managed the development of a company-wide chemical inventory and reporting system and became a Data Management Specialist before retiring in 1996.

Bob was heavily involved in Janice's and Mike's activities. He coached basketball, football, and little league baseball, and won the baseball city championship when Mike was 15. Bob's other passion was golf. He played several times a week at Adams Golf Course and had five holes in one ("lucky shots," according to his golf buddies). Bob was President of the Adams Senior Men's Golf Association for more than fifteen years.

Bob and Judy loved to travel, visiting Europe several times, and Australia and New Zealand, where Bob went hang gliding in his 60's. They took their children and grandchildren on a Caribbean Cruise to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

Bob was very active in St. James Catholic Church as a senior usher, cross bearer, and lector, and served two terms as president of the Parish Council.

Bob is survived by his wife, Judy, his two children, Janice and her husband Scott of McKinney, Texas, Mike and his wife Jill of Plano, Texas, and his four grandchildren, Grant, Sydney, Mitchel, and Thomas. Bob is preceded in death by his brothers George and Bill, and his surviving brothers are Father Paul, Jim, and John.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Bob Oborny Memorial Fund, Adams Golf Club, 5801 Tuxedo Blvd., Bartlesville, OK 74006.
