Rollie Lykins passed away peacefully surrounded by family in his home on March 13, 2018 in Bartlesville, OK. He was 95.
Rollie was born on July 3, 1922 in Wheelersburg, KY to his parents, Ada and William Lykins. He graduated from Okmulgee High School where he played football. He enlisted in the Navy in October of 1942. He sailed around the world twice, participating in the invasion of Sicily and preparing for the invasion of Japan. He completed his service on December 5, 1945.
He married Gladyce Lykins on December 6, 1947. Rollie and Gladyce made their home on three acres in Bartlesville, OK where they raised their four children. Rollie had a long career at Southwestern Bell telephone company and retired in 1983.
Throughout his life, Rollie was an avid beekeeper, gardener, fisherman, and hunter, but his greatest love was for God, his wife, and his family. He had a ready wit and kept a great attitude. He would always say, “Everyday’s a good day.”
Rollie is survived by his three daughters, Linda, and her husband Pat Bly, of Springfield, MO, Donna Lykins of Bartlesville, OK, and Sandra Lykins of Bartlesville, OK; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.His was preceded in death by his wife, Gladyce Lykins; his son, Jim Lykins; his sister, Mary Hoffman; and his brothers; Fred Lykins, Roy Lykins, and Pearl Lykins.
