She graduated from Omega High school in 1940. Then she attended business college, so she could work at Tinker Air Force Base to put herself through college. While attending A&M she met John Harper. Phyllis and John Calvin Harper were united in marriage on May 31, 1947 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She graduated that same year.

Phyllis was member of First Baptist Church and dearly loved her church. She was a strong witness for Christ and loved telling people about him. She was generous and loving to everyone. She was loved by the Assisted Living staff. She enjoyed sewing for her children, making crafts, playing hymns on the piano, reading her Bible, but most of all she loved her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters; Paula and her husband Sonny Edwards of Greer South Carolina, Cheryl and her husband Carl Laverty of Laverne Oklahoma, Jonnie and her husband David Edwards of Stillwater Oklahoma, and grandchildren; Beth Laverty, Ben Laverty, Rachel Lewis and her husband Jonathan, and a great granddaughter; Nyla.
