Arlena "Jeane" Dawes
October 17, 1934 - January 12, 2023

Arlena "Jeane" Dawes, 88, of Bartlesville, OK, joined her husband Tom in their heavenly home on Thursday, January 12, 2023.

Jeane was born October 17, 1934, in Barnsdall, OK, to Bill and Helen (Gordon) Kingsbury. She graduated from Barnsdall High School in 1953. She was a member of the high school basketball team, which were state champions.

Jeane married her high school sweetheart, Tom A. Dawes, after graduation in July 1953. To this union three children were born, John, Jeff, and Angela. Jeane was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Although her primary focus was serving as a homemaker, she worked several jobs through her life, including serving as the director of the American Lung Association of Oklahoma. After her first grandchild was born, she stopped working so she could babysit.

One of her favorite pastimes was baking cookies to give away. It was almost a daily activity. She loved to brighten other people's lives. She also enjoyed authoring short stories and had one published in Birds in Bloom. Jeane also spent many hours feeding and caring for birds and squirrels.

Before entering the nursing home, Jeane enjoyed baking cookies and taking them to the Fire Department on the corner of Madison and Tuxedo.

Jeane is well known in the community for being an agent of change where needed and helping others. Some of her most notable accomplishments were leading the charge to stop smoking in the Bartlesville Public Schools during the 1970s. She also went before the Bartlesville Public School Board to insist a stop light be installed in front of Hoover Elementary. Jeane's purpose in life was to help. She helped people of all ages, from helping take elderly to doctor appointments to paying for a younger woman to gain her CNA license. She continuously helped others, even up to the day she passed away.

Jeane is survived by her three children and their spouses, John A. and Trina Dawes, Jeff T. and Sarah Dawes, and Angela K. and Deni Lorson; a brother, Jerry Kingsbury; four grandchildren, Thomas Lorson, Danielle Lorson, Vincent Dawes, and Rachelle Kelliher-Dawes; and a great-grandson, Krew Lorson. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Tom A. Dawes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Wesleyan Church of Bartlesville, 1776 Silver Lake Rd., Bartlesville, OK 74006; or to the Washington County SPCA, 16620 State Highway 123, Bartlesville, OK 74003.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2023, at Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory - Walker Brown Chapel with Pastor Joe Colaw officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory - Walker Brown Chapel.
