Barbara (BJ) Collins, age 81 of Bartlesville passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017.

BJ was born in Frederick, OK on January 17, 1936 as the youngest daughter of William S. (Bill) Howard and Ruth (Couger) Howard.
She graduated from Borger High School and in May 1954. She studied fashion design at Texas State College for Women in Denton, TX (Sept 1954) and Frank Phillips College in Borger, TX (Jan 1955).
BJ loved fashion design, gardening and genealogy. BJ’s talents in fashion design are still enjoyed by her family from the sketches left in her portfolio. She was a member of the Bartlesville Garden Club. She researched and documented her family’s genealogy, expanding the family tree published by Aunt Lola Gene Chadoin in 1954.
She was a member of East Cross and First United Methodist Church. In her later years, she enjoyed studying scripture and watching the TV series, “Through the Bible”, with Les Feldick.
BJ was a partner in three local businesses: H&R Block, BJ’s Bait and Tackle, and B&R Construction. She also worked as a bookkeeper at the Elk’s Club, Superior Welding, and Superior Casting in Bartlesville.
The job she loved the most was being a mother and grandmother. She was very family oriented and cherished every moment she spent with her loved ones.

Survivors include: husband Ray Dixon of Bartlesville, OK; one son Michael Collins (wife Panisa) of Bartlesville, OK; two daughters, Jennifer Scherkenback (husband Tim) of Scottsdale, AZ and Sandra Velde (husband Brandon) of Peoria, IL; four grandchildren, Savannah Rose, Tess Scherkenback, James Scherkenback and Marisa Collins.

BJ was preceded in death by her parents.

A celebration of life will be held at 10AM Saturday, April 1 in the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home in Bartlesville.

Her burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
