John B. Brown, 77, retired local painting contractor, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Washington County Memorial Hospital following a five-year illness.  He had entered the local hospital two weeks ago.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Arnold Moore Funeral Chapel. The Rev. A. F. Collins, pastor of the Bartlesville Baptist Temple will be officiate. 

Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Brown was born May 20, 1885, in Ohio and when a child his family moved to Stuttgart, Ark., where he received his early schooling.  The family later moved to Indian Territory settling in Pryor, where he completed his education.  He married Miss Lila Marie Hodges on July 7, 1919 , in Bartlesville.  He was a member of the Silver Lake Baptist Church,  Illness caused his retirement in 1957. Mrs. Brown is an employee of a local hospital. 

His survivors in addition to his wife include one son, Jack D. Brown, Wichita, Kan.; a grandson, two step grandchildren and a great granddaughter; one brother and two sisters.
