Mary Modine Brock, 79, of Bartlesville, died Wednesday in her home at Tallgrass Estates Retirement Community surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 15, 2017.

Mary was born in Bartlesville on January 31, 1938 to Talmadge and Modine (Marshall) Boone. She
grew up in Ramona and graduated from Vera High School. After high school, she attended Northeastern Oklahoma at Miami, and then Northeastern State University at Tahlequah where she graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. After graduation, Mary Headed to California to teach for 2 years until she became homesick for Oklahoma. She married Leonard Lee Brock Jr. in Ramona, Oklahoma on July 6, 1963. After moving to Bartlesville, she took a position teaching at Limestone School for many years before finishing her 30 year career at Wayside Elementary. Most of her time was spent teaching kindergarten students though she worked with first, second, and third graders as well. In 1981, Mary was named the Bartlesville Public School District’s first-ever Teacher of the Year. Following retirement, she worked as a substitute teacher for several years. In 2011; she was inducted into the Bartlesville Public School Foundation’s Educators Hall of Fame.

She loved basketball which she played in high school, college, and into her adult years. She played Senior Olympic Basketball up until she turned 70. Her time in the organization allowed her to compete in national tournaments throughout the country.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Bartlesville Education Association and the Oklahoma Education Association. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and teaching them basketball, ping pong and Chinese checkers. She was also an avid doll collector.

The Brock family will receive guests for visitation on Sunday from 4 P.M. until 6 P.M. at the Stumpff Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Monday, November 20, 2017 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Cox officiating. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.

A memorial fund has been established and those who wish may send their contributions to the First Baptist Church New Day Fund, P.O. Box 1080, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, 74006.

Survivors include her husband Leonard Brock of Bartlesville, two daughters, Dana Brock of Bartlesville and Lori Wilson and husband Mark of The Woodlands, Texas, one sister, Sandra Everett and husband David of Owasso, Okla., a brother, David Boone and wife Anita of San Tan Valley, Arizona and five grandchildren, Brock Cross, Mary Cross, Davis Wilson, Bailey Wilson and Reece Wilson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Donald Boone, one sister, Patricia Williams and a son, Tony Brock in 1984.
