BARTLESVILLE EXAMINER-ENTERPRISE
BARTLESVILLE, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)

Lt. Col. William Lee "Bill" Boggs (Retired), age 89 and resident of Bartlesville passed away at his residence on Sunday, July 30, 2017.

Tough on the outside, thoughtful and generous on the inside, and honorable through and through – that was Bill Boggs.

William Lee ("Bill") Boggs was born in Casper, Wyoming, April 22, 1928, to James Francis Boggs and Grace Garrison Boggs.
As a child, he and his older brother, Bob, had horses, which they rode freely in the Wyoming countryside. During his teen years, the family moved to Bartlesville, where Bill attended high school. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Maine Corps when he was seventeen.
After completing his Marine Corps enlistment, Bill returned to civilian life in Bartlesville, where he met his wife to be, Mary Carman ("Carman") Dougherty. Bill and Carman were married in Bartlesville in 1950, and had their first child, Michael, in 1952.
Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1952, and following completion of Officer Candidate School, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Bill would go on to serve as an Army officer until his retirement in 1972.
Bill and Carman's next two children, David and Steven ("Bud"), were born while they were stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, followed by the birth of their only daughter, Tamara, after the growing family was transferred to Fort Lewis, Washington. Their fifth child, Joseph, was born while the family was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Bill had a host of duty assignments while in the Army, including attendance at the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and overseas tours in Iran, Germany, Vietnam, and West Africa. Though Bill retired from active duty as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1972, his affinity for service to his country continued until his passing.
In conjunction with his retirement from the Army, the family took up residence in Bartlesville, where Bill went on to be a business owner, work for the American Legion, be employed by the city as a Health Inspector, and do a stint as the Director of the city Sanitation Department.
Bill enjoyed cooking, and was an exceptional bread baker. His revered Sunday family dinners were truly delicious events, and his love of preparing and serving them was evidenced by his whistling while he cooked.
Bill was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a true and nurturing friend in fair weather and foul.

He is survived by his wife, Carman, of Bartlesville, daughter, Tamara Hindman of Oglesby, son, Michael of Bartlesville, son, David of Fargo, North Dakota, son, Joseph of Ridgecrest, California, adopted son, Ross of Bartlesville, 11 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Bill was a truly wonderful, remarkable man, and will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.

Services will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home chapel. Rev. Scott Taylor of the Disciples Christian Church will officiate.

Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery where military rites will be accorded.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home.
