STUMPFF FUNERAL HOME
BARTLESVILLE, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)

Andrew George Anderson, long-time Bartlesville resident passed away peacefully, Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Jane Phillips Memorial Hospital in Bartlesville at the age of 97.

Andrew was born on November 11, 1920 in Waynesville, Missouri. He was the son of William Cleveland Anderson Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Hill) Anderson.

Andrew was a loving, attentive, dependable and dedicated husband and father whose wife and family always came first, and also has the distinction of being a WWII Veteran who proudly served and made significant sacrifices for his country.

Andrew met and fell in love with Irene Elizabeth Morrison in Southern Missouri. Both were working at the same establishment and later, were married on Aug 3, 1941 in Eldridge, Missouri. Andrew was a loyal, faithful husband, always committed to Irene’s well-being and happiness for their entire 76 year marriage until his death. Celebrating together with Irene, their 75th Wedding Anniversary among family and friends was a highlight of his entire life. He expressed at that time, “Through all the determination and love, that’s how you stay together for 75 years.”

Shortly after he and Irene were married, Andrew entered the service in 1943. He was assigned to the 375th Medical Battalion of the 75th Division and was later transferred to the 671st Heavy Artillery Battalion at Fort Gordon, Georgia. When Andrew returned from the war, he began his lengthy, 50-plus year career with Phillips Petroleum Company in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1970, Andrew was transferred with Phillips, to Bartlesville, OK, where he continued his work as a financial analyst before retiring in the early 80s.

During their time in the Kansas City area, Andrew and Irene had three children; two sons and a daughter (Larry, Janie and Roy). Andrew was actively involved in the raising, nurturing and well-being of his family through Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, regular family campouts, special occasion shopping trips, on-going DIY handy-man activities for home improvement along with extensive traveling with Irene and the children. Church attendance each and every Sunday, was a regular family habit for the entire family.

During the retirement years, Andrew and Irene enjoyed many active years of traveling, camping at the Bear’s Den, going to Branson, visiting friends and family, helping with DIY and craft projects, travel clubs and hobbies. They made it a priority to help with any opportunity possible. Andrew and his wife, Irene spent their lives side-by-side… even during their last few years as residents together in their own double room at Brookdale. They took their vows seriously: “to have and to hold from this day forward…… to love and to cherish till death do us part.”

Andrew will be remembered for his quiet strength, the priorities he chose that directed his life, and the role model he provides for us all still. Andrew leaves behind a remarkable legacy and a life, “lived well.”

Andrew is survived by his wife, Irene Anderson; three children, Larry M. Anderson and his wife, Mary Lou of Bartlesville, Janie and her husband, (Dave) Cooper of Newport Beach, California, and Roy C. Anderson Sr. and his wife, Deborah of Bartlesville; his brother, Norman Anderson of Waynesville, Missouri; eight grandchildren: Nikki King and family of Tulsa, Kristy and (Chris) Flennigan and family of Austin, Texas, Crystal Anderson-Barone and (Jill Barone) and family of Tulsa, Jason Boyle and (Jenny Szabo) and family of Seattle, Justin G.
