Norma Jean Smith, 86, of Bartlesville, died Sunday in Bartlesville after a brief battle with cancer.
Norma was born February 20, 1927, in Schulter, OK, to William Monroe and Sarah Etta Denton Meek. She graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1945.
Norma’s greatest joy in life was raising her children and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, cooking, listening to country music and she always looked forward to playing cards on Wednesdays with her girlfriends. She worked as a secretary at the Bartlesville Tobacco Company and later as an assistant at Bens Real Estate. She was also a successful businesswoman – she sold Mary Kay cosmetics for years and drove a pink Cadillac.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her four children Mike Selby and Linda of Copan, Larry Selby and Mary of Grove, Thomas Selby of Bartlesville, and Jill McGehee and Bobby of Dibble, OK; one brother Damon Meek of Huffman, TX; seven grandchildren Shelly Honeycutt and Russel of Delaware, OK, Lynn Brown of Wann, Jason Selby and fiancée Sara of Bartlesville, Ashley McGehee of Dible, Curry Bain of Dibble, Zachary McGehee of Dibble and Stetson McGehee of Dibble; five great grandchildren Skylar Gehle, Shelyn Gehle, Raylee Honeycutt , Colten Honeycutt and Boots Brown; two great great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Peyton Gehle; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband H.J. Smith, her parents, one brother Floyd Estella and three sisters Shirley Meredith, Lela Olds and Modean Lamson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Comforting Hands Hospice, 2450 SE Washington Blvd., Bartlesville, OK 74006.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held Thursday, October 3, 2013, at 1 p.m. in the Davis Family Funeral Home Chapel. Chaplin Mike McDougan will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dewey Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Family Funeral Home.
