Joseph Franklin Long Jr., 96, resident of Dewey, died at 7:30 A.M. on Friday October 23, 2015.
Memorial Services for Mr. Long will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the First Christian Church in Pawhuska. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory in Bartlesville.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cherokee Council Boy Scouts of America, Attn: Leo Lee, 520 SE Quapaw, Bartlesville, Oklahoma 74003.
Mr. Long was born December 1, 1918 in Oilton, Oklahoma to Joseph Franklin Sr. and Myrtle Ellen (Wright) Long. He and Ella Doris Green were married November 28, 1947 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Mr. Long was a longtime volunteer with Boy Scouts of America. He received the prestigious Centurion Award from the Boy Scouts of America's Order of the Arrow in August of 2015.
Mr. Long is survived by two sons; Paul Long and Joseph Wayne Long of Wynona, Oklahoma. Two daughters; Adaleah Ann Taylor of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Carolyn Davis of Dewey, Oklahoma. Best friend and longtime Scouting Companion Bruce Hendren. Twelve grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. One niece, four nephews and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Ella Doris Long, son Paul and two sisters; Josephine (Long) Zeigler and Virginia (Long) Provorse.
