(permission granted)

Mary Nell King, 79, of Whippoorwill, died Friday at her home.

Mary was born the daughter of Gus Aarron and Eula Mae (Gonce) Underwood on October 15, 1940, in Ada, OK. She grew up in Eastern Oklahoma and New Mexico where her father worked on the oil pipelines and Mary worked in the fields picking cotton. Mary met and married Harry Joe Cooper and they soon had four boys. The young family lived in Bartlesville for five years. She then married Rex Oaks and moved to Tulsa for the next 20 years. Later in life Mary met and married Gary King, and they enjoyed 15 years together before he preceded her in death in 1996. Shortly after, Mary decided to move to her current home at Whippoorwill where she enjoyed the country living and the many beautiful trees on her property.

Mary loved all of God’s creations, especially her precious children. She cared for her son Curtis in her home for many years before he passed. She also enjoyed nurturing the many flowers in her yard, listening to her vast music collection, and cooking during the holidays. Most of all she loved her family and having everyone over to the house. Mary enjoyed sending cards for every occasion and talking on the phone to stay connected with those she loved even when they were apart. She loved and was dearly loved.

Mary is survived by two sons Harry Cooper and Joe Lee Cooper; two sisters Betty Crittiden and Gail Jones; one brother Mark Wayne Underwood; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Gary King, two sons Curtis Cooper and Larry Cooper, and two sisters Frankie Long and Patsy Duncan.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. - 12 noon at the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel. 918-534-3030, 113 S Osage, Dewey, OK.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2020, at the Dewey Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel.
