Betty Alyce Copeland
January 14, 1929 - January 8, 2026
Betty Alyce Copeland, 96, of Dewey, died January 8th in Owasso. Heaven must have needed someone to play the piano.
Long before she became a musician, ministering to people, entertaining groups with her God-given talent, Betty was a beloved child of God.
She was born the daughter of Orville Jack and Leota (Pendleton) Dobbs on January 14, 1929, in Copan, Oklahoma. Her father worked for the Copan School District and Betty fondly remembered that the school gymnasium was her playground. She relished memories of the sense of community and all the neighborhood kids growing up.
Betty was saved and dedicated her life to Jesus Christ at the Copan Methodist Church. Later on, her father became a Baptist Deacon and her affiliation changed as well. Since the founding of Rose Hill Baptist Church in Dewey 40 plus years ago Betty has been the only pianist and has faithfully served since the beginning.
Betty graduated from Copan High School in 1946 and she went on to business college and married Clark Lucas. The best part of this union was being blessed by God with two children Paula and Clark. Once the kids were older Betty started her career with Phillips Petroleum retiring the first time with 35 years of service. She started a second career with the Washington County District 1 that covered her beloved Copan area and served another 28 years.
Betty was attending a Jane Philips Sorority event in Grove, when she was introduced to Jack Copeland. She soon realized he would be her forever love and they married in 1980 and enjoyed 34 years of loving marriage. Jack preceded her in death in 2014.
From an early age and throughout her entire life, Betty loved the Lord and music. In fact she was part of the Notorious Dobbs Sisters who frequently sang at funerals, churches or wherever they were needed. Together with Jack she enjoyed traveling and they often hosted cherished friends in their home. Betty enjoyed being with her friends and attending social gatherings, especially with the Jane Philips Sorority. Her faith in our Lord Jesus Christ was the most important part of her life. She dedicated herself to serving in the church as a pianist. She will be dearly missed.
Betty is survived by her children Paula Girori and husband Michael, and Clark Lucas and wife Kay; six grandchildren, Darren Bolding, Lucas Bolding, Alyssa Nisunbaum, Brandon Joe Lucas, Ashley Amber Fesler and Luke Lucas; 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Donald Dean Dobbs, Nancy Ellen Lewis, Dickie Rea Horn, Frances Gail Johnson and Ronald Gene Dobbs

Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-8 at the Davis Family Funeral Home - Dewey Chapel.
