Vonda Carolyn Copeland, nee’ Johnson, turned the last page of her book on
Saturday, October 3, 2026, and went home to be with her Savior and join
members of her family that have gone on before her. Those being father MH
Johnson, mother Mary Johnson, brothers Doyle Johnson, James Johnson, Geary
Johnson, Harold Johnson, Donald Johnson, Billie Johnson, and sister Brenda
Dunn.
Vonda was born October 12, 1937, in Fort Gibson and passed in Coweta
at her home surrounded by family.
Also included in these lifelong blessings are the many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends old and new, and precious church family, especially members of her Sunday School Class the Faithful Sisters.
She has spent the majority of her life since childhood in service to her Jesus, serving as a children’s Sunday School teacher and senior adult Sunday School teacher for nearly 60 years total. She taught Bible School for many years even earning a broken foot playing jump rope. To be fair, she was given hot peppers. If you have questions, ask Betty Woodward about this one. (Hot peppers are when the jump rope is turned super fast and you have to jump super fast to keep up.)She has been a prayer warrior and an unshakeable testament to the love of Christ her savior. She played piano and organ and had a beautiful alto voice and loved singing. She was the bane of her school age children because she was their alarm clock waking them every morning for school singing “You Are So Beautiful to Me.”
Vonda was a skilled seamstress, sewing for her children and for herself. She was an avid quilter and crocheter until arthritis made needlework painful. Her culinary skills were legendary. The story has been told that she could take a “dirty dish rag” and make a seven course meal fit for a king. No one ever left her home without being fed, and there was always room for more guests with everyone taking a little something home for later. She had a true Biblical gift of hospitality and was a Proverbs 31 wife and mother. The information on this site is provided free for the purpose of researching your genealogy.
