His passing occurred at his lovely home in Oklahoma City on April 15, 2021 at the age of 85 years old.

Known to all as Lucky rather than Richard, this name was earned one eventful night at the unbelievable age of 9 hours old. A tornado swept through his home carrying him away from his family. Searchers riding on horseback and carrying lanterns eventually found Lucky shielded underneath a glass window, completely unharmed, but his gown frozen stiff. His parents were taken to separate hospitals until they could be identified and reunited. Once together, his mother quickly and officially added Lucky to his birth name.

Lucky and his family lived in Collinsville, Oklahoma. He attended grades 1 through 12 in Collinsville, graduating in 1955. Growing up, Lucky was an avid sports enthusiast, playing football, basketball, and running track in high school and football in college. Lucky attended college at NEO A&M in Miami, Oklahoma from 1955-1957 where he earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration. After his years in college, he enlisted in the US Army serving as a medical specialist from 1958 to 1960. He received a medal of Good Conduct, a Letter of Appreciation, a Marksman Badge for Rifle, and earned the rank of Platoon Sergeant during his short time in the service.

After his years in the Army, Lucky worked as a Director of Public Relations for Verdigris Valley Electric Cooperative in Oklahoma as well as Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative in Wilcox, AZ. Lucky then worked as a Project Manager and Sales Manager in Sunsites, AZ. He also owned and managed a retail-clothing store for boys and men at Dale’s Men’s Wear. Later, Lucky moved back to Oklahoma to marry his long-time schoolmate Nathalia Sue (Hawkins) Fleming on June 27, 1987. In Oklahoma, Lucky worked as General Manager for Grand Lake Boat Sales followed by working with Curtis Industries as an area Sales Representative until the time of his retirement.
