Anna Laura (Pleasant) Roberts
June 28, 1937 - October 24, 2025
Anna Laura Pleasant Roberts was born on June 28, 1937, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Vernon Sexton and Anna Marie Kupiec Pleasant. She was the second of six children, growing up alongside her siblings: Vernon Albert "Toots" Pleasant, Robert Raymond Pleasant, Deloris "Dee" Pleasant Dunn, Billy Charles Pleasant, and Judy Debra Pleasant Barnes.
Anna Laura was raised in a God-loving family, where faith and music were part of everyday life. Her father, Vernon, served as a pastor, and the family sang and played instruments during church services and revivals. She attended school in the Tulsa area and met the love of her life, Joseph "Joe" Edwin Roberts, through her church.
Anna Laura and Joe married in 1954 and began their life together in the Jenks community. They began to raise their four children: Donald Edwin Roberts, Laurna Jo Roberts Tuck, Jimmie Darrel Roberts, and DeAnna Lynn Roberts Custer. While Anna Laura devoted herself to being a loving mother and homemaker, Joe and his sons ran Gibble Gas Station in Jenks and he worked as an ironworker to support the family. Their life was built on faith, hard work, and love - for each other and their children.
In the 1970s, the family moved to Locust Grove where they built a life filled with love and purpose. They raised their children, cared for relatives, gardened, worked outdoors, tended to cattle and other animals, and enjoyed traveling and motorcycle adventures - making lasting memories along the way.
Anna Laura was no stranger to hard work. As a young woman, she worked in a department store warehouse and cleaned apartments alongside her sister. Later, she took a job at "Cooks," a Main Street restaurant in Locust Grove. But it was at Country Cottage - her "home away from home" - where she spent nearly 20 years, forming deep bonds with coworkers and customers alike.
She held a special place in her heart for Linda and Dale Moore, their children, and the many coworkers and patrons she came to see as extended family. To everyone who met her, Anna Laura was a God-loving, joyful presence - a bright light who always had a smile and a kind word. She welcomed others with open arms, often greeting them with her signature warmth and a cheerful, "Come in this house!"
One constant in her life - besides her family - was her faith in God. She attended several churches throughout her adulthood, including Iron Post Church, Sister Mildred's church, and later Cornerstone Church, all in Locust Grove. She built every decision on prayer, trust, and the loving grace of Christ Jesus. You would often hear her singing, humming, or whistling hymns, filling the room with joy. She grew up playing the guitar and piano and shared the love of Jesus with everyone she met. She truly was an angel among us, living each day with joy and reflecting God's unwavering love through her words and kindness.
Anna Laura eventually retired and returned home, where she continued to care for her husband until his passing in 2018. She left this earthly world on October 24, 2025, as she wished - at home, with her family and the upmost dignity and grace. Her passing was peaceful, and a reflection of the life she lived: faithful, kind, and full of heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Anna Marie Pleasant; brothers Vernon Albert "Toots" and Billy Charles Pleasant; her eldest son, Donald Edwin Roberts; and her beloved husband, Joe.
Anna Laura is survived by her brother, Robert Pleasant of Tulsa; sisters Deloris "Dee" Dunn of Mannford, Oklahoma, and Judy Debra and Lew Barnes of Claremore, Oklahoma; children Laurna Jo and Robert Tuck of Whitewright, Texas, Jim and Angela Roberts of Mannford, Oklahoma, and DeAnna Custer of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law Debra Roberts of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends - far too many to count.
The family asks that, as you each grieve her passing, you celebrate her whole 88 years of life. Carry forward the same spirit of kindness she had. Let us choose grace over judgment, compassion over criticism, and love over all else. When we do this, we keep her light alive - just as a lighthouse guides us safely to shore, our memories of Anna Laura will do the same. We will remember her in every word we speak and every heart we touch.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the Fire & Wind Ministries Church in Locust Grove. Pastor Justin Summers will officiate. Interment will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery, 5111 S. Memorial Drive, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to Locust Grove Funeral Home.
