George Browning Fellers

George Browning Fellers was born on April 20th, 1924 in Wichita, KS, the son of Browning Watson and Alma (Dukes) Fellers. The family also consisted of one brother and three sisters. Life wasn't easy during this time in history. Money and jobs were scarce. He attended and graduated from high school. Following his family relocating to Tulsa, OK, he worked from 1939 until starting work at the Bond baking Company of Tulsa, OK. At this time, World War II was in full swing and like so many others at this time, George was called into the services of the United States, namely the United States Navy, and honorably served his country from July 9th, 1943 until returning to his home in Tulsa, OK on June of 1946. While in the Navy, he worked as a baker, feeding the troops that fought daily, and earning the Victory Medal, The American Campaign Medal, The Asiatic Campaign Medal, and two stars. Upon returning to civilian life, he would meet and marry the love of his life, Lula Mae "Lou" Pruitt on Christmas Eve, December 24th, 1949 in Tulsa, OK. Together they raised a family of five daughter and enjoyed 51 years of love, laughter and memories. George was the owner and operator of Fellers Bakery Equipment, a store specializing in all things needed for commercial bakery businesses. When he wasn't working or running after five very busy daughters, he loved fishing! He had a cabin at Eufaula where he went to reel in the big ones and work, he was always working at something. He was also an avid hunter, and liked tracking deer. He possessed a green thumb and could grow amazing flowers year after year. He had an unshakable faith in God and served him all of his days at Southside Baptist Church, serving as a deacon for years, and always ready to serve everyone entrusted to his care. He had the nickname "Candyman", giving out candy for the children and a joke for the adults. His friends were many, his enemies few, because George was the friend, neighbor and family man we all wanted to know. He was kind, generous and ornery, ordering fried bologna in a five star restaurant in Chicago, making life a little better for his being here. Life hadn't always been easy, he and Lou buried an infant son. Yet he never complained and always looked for the bright side. He would jokingly call himself "Poor Old George", so his family made him a baseball cap that he wore with pride with his title. He was genuine, never wanting anyone to think he wasn't the friend with a servant's heart. His greatest happiness was his wife Lou, their five daughters, Phyllis, Gwen, Jan, Debra, and Lisa and of course his 10 adored grandchildren. He was always interested in their activities and was their biggest fan. He lost his wife in 2001, and also knew the heartache of burying his daughters, Phyllis and a grandson, Alan. He Lord called this good and faithful man home from his many labors on April 20th, 2021 at his home, surrounded by those who loved him. He was 97 years old and leaves a legacy of love that will be hard to imitate.

He has gone home to his wife Lou, his daughter, Phyllis Jackson, his grandson, Alan Jackson, his mother and father, one brother, three sisters, two son-in-laws, Walt Highfill and Jimbo Robbins.

His memory will be cherished by his surviving family, daughters Gwen Highfill of Owasso, OK, Jan Campbell of Jenks, OK, Debra Boyd and husband David of Bixby, OK, and Lisa Robbins of Catoosa, OK. He will live on in his ten grandchildren, Brian Boyd, Megan Edmonds, Paul Boyd, Kevin Highfill, Sara Campbell, Jimmy Robbins, Scott Campbell, Tiffany Highfill, Stephen Campbell, and Krista Robbins. He also leaves 19 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.

Funeral services for George Browning Fellers will be held on Friday, April 23rd, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Southside Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Sunburg officiating. Pallbearers for George include Brian Boyd, Paul Boyd, Kevin Highfill, Jimmy Robbins, Scott Campbell, and Steven Campbell.

His honorary pallbearers include Jace Robbins, Aiven Robbins, Tim Darrow, and Micah Highfill.

His family will have a visitation on Thursday, April 22nd, 2021 beginning at 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Reed-Culver Funeral Home.

He will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, OK.
