Orland Duane Houston
June 29, 1929 - September 27, 2026
Orland Duane Houston, 97, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 27, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Orland was born in Geary, Oklahoma, to John and Lottie Houston. Over the course of his 97 years, he built a life marked by hard work, family, conversation, music, and a marriage that spanned more than three-quarters of a century.
At the center of Orland's life was his wife, Barbara Ellen Houston, with whom he shared an extraordinary 77 years of marriage. It was a milestone he was enormously proud of and, true to his nature, one he was always happy to tell you about.
Orland was equally proud of his career in the aircraft industry. He spent 37 years working in aviation, including 20 years with McDonnell Douglas, where he worked on the F-15. He was also a member of the Masons.
Outside of work, Orland had plenty of interests. Earlier in life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he had a lifelong love of country music. He also played guitar, a talent his son Roger didn't even discover his father had until Roger was in his thirties.
Orland loved his animals, too. Over the years, they included his Cockatiel Prince, his dog, Todie, and, in more recent years, his cat, Gracie.
He also appreciated the finer things in life. Orland liked nice clothes and jewelry and enjoyed looking sharp, but he loved finding a bargain just as much. And when he found a particularly good deal, chances were everyone around him was going to hear about it.
Perhaps most of all, Orland was a talker. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Two subjects were always close at hand: exactly how old he was and exactly how many years he and Barbara had been married. He had lived long enough to be proud of both, and he certainly was.
Orland is survived by his wife of 77 years, Barbara Ellen Houston; his sons, Mike Houston, Jerry Houston, and Roger Houston; seven grandchildren, Toby Houston, Brian Houston, Karie Houston, Rodney Houston, Michael Houston, Audrey Houston, and Alex Houston; and his great-grandchildren, Heather Houston, Brooke Houston, Karissa O'Neal, Eric Houston, Madison Houston, Violet Houston, Brandan Hill, Alissa Gallegos, Grace Taylor, Jon Taylor, Jacob Taylor, and a host of great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lottie Houston.
