Funeral service for Lavera Jo Smith, age 76, of Oklahoma City is pending with McRay Funeral Home.

Mrs. Smith was born on December 29, 1928. She died on December 7, 2005, in Oklahoma City.

Lavera Jo [Purtell] Smith

Funeral service for Lavera Jo Smith, age 76 of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2005, in the McRay Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Katie Jones will officiate.

Lavera Jo Smith was born the daughter of George Purtell and Ruth Beavers Purtell on December 29, 1928, in Addington, Oklahoma. She died at her home in Oklahoma City on December 7, 2005.

Jo grew up in Addington and graduated from Addington High School. After graduation, she attended Draughn's Business School. She married Loyd Smith on January 18, 1957, in Wichita Falls, Texas. They spent most of their life in the Duncan area. During this time, Jo worked as a draftswoman for Halliburton, secretary for Horace Mann Elementary, and Harris Insurance Agency. After retirement, she did volunteer work for schools where she was known as Mee Mee. In 1994, she and her husband moved to Oklahoma City.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include: Husband: Loyd Smith of Oklahoma City; Son & Wife: Steve & Luanna Parker of Duncan; Daughter & Husband: Connie & Tim Stiger of Chickasha; Granddaughter: Holly Parker of Duncan; Granddaughter: Krista Parker of Duncan; Granddaughter & Husband: Alana & Jimmy McAnally of Oklahoma City; Five Great-Grandchildren: Beth, Kaceson, Leah, Devon, and Haleigh.

Interment will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Duncan at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2005.

Casket bearers are Andy Collins, Randy Wilcox, Jimmy McAnally, Shane McClennen, Johnny Kuykendall, and Joey Sala. Honorary casket bearers are Shannon Jones, Dan Phelps, Dee Ratliff and Jay Miears.

Services will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
