Jerry Ray Gowan

December 15, 1940 - August 5, 2017

Jerry R. Gowan went home to Heaven at 1:30 PM on Saturday, August 5, 2017, with his wife of 57 years, Linda, by his side.
Family visitation will be Wednesday, August 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Whitt Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 10, at 10:00 AM at the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Morgan officiating. Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
He was born on December 15, 1940, to RT and Louise Gowan in Chatfield, Texas. Jerry attended school in Roane, Texas until eighth grade and graduated from Corsicana High School in 1959. During high school he met Linda Kretsinger and married her on April 14, 1960.
In 1962 he went to work for Halliburton Services. He worked for Halliburton for 45 of the next 47 years. During this time he worked in 17 countries on 5 continents and lived in England and Tunisia.
Jerry worked hard, but his real passion was helping people. He loved giving blessings -- it might be by mowing your yard or inviting you to his home for his famous homemade ice cream and a hamburger. When he retired, he became his wife's number one Mary Kay supporter by driving her to functions and even making deliveries. He also enjoyed playing with Sarah, his furry person, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and watching westerns.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda Gowan, of the home; daughter, Lynn Smith and husband Keith, of Duncan; son, Dave Gowan, of Davis; grandchildren, Nonie Meyer and wife Julie, of Ft. Washington, Maryland, David Gowan, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Andrew Smith and wife Brittany, of Yukon, and Tyler Gowan and wife Rose, of Chickasha; great- grandsons, Maxson Gowan and Lachlan Smith; sister, Peggy Graves and husband Henry, of Waxahachie, Texas; brother, Loyd Gowan and wife Mary, of Blooming Grove, Texas; aunt, Vickie Malone, of Duncan; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and uncle, W.T. Malone.
