L. B. English Obituary
Duncan Banner
5 Feb 2003
Submitted by:Gene Phillips

L.B. English of Duncan died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at the age of 78. He was born March 25, 1924, in Bray to the late Bert and Kate English. He grew up and lived with his family in the Bray-Marlow area. In 1941, he graduated from Marlow High School.
After graduation, he entered the United States Army Air Corp, where he served his country in the South Pacific Theater of World War II. He was discharged from the Army in 1946 as a corporal and had been twice awarded the Bronze Star for valor.
He worked for Halliburton Company for 39 years in a number of positions. He retired in 1985. Many who knew him said he was one of the best oil well men they had ever known.
After retirement, he spent a number of years realizing one of his life-long dreams...working his land and raising cattle just north of Bray. Some of his happiest times were spent enjoying the Nature that he loved.
L.B. is survived by his loving wife, Mary, who remains in the home. They were married Aug. 6, 1947, in Winnsboro, Texas. He had one son, Tommy Bert, and his wife, Nancy, of Houston. He also had a daughter, Kathy Lee Bridwell, and her husband, Toby, of Carrollton, Texas. Additionally, he is survived by three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of whom adored him.
He leaves two sisters, Sue Prater of Bray and Ruby Brown of Marlow. A sister, Bertie Lucille Stalcup and a brother, J.T. English, preceded him in death.
L.B. was a long-time member of the Church of Christ. He worshiped at the East Side congregation in Duncan. Many close acquaintances from his church family and those who knew him mourn his passing. All will remember him as a good and caring man who considered love of family and loyalty to friends as some of his strongest qualities.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in East Side Church of Christ with Ron Stough and Larry Black officiating. Burial will be in Marlow under the direction of Bailes-Polk Funeral Home.
