Thelma L. Adair


Thelma D. Ashley was born January 24, 1932 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma to Emma and L Mark Davis. She passed away September 13, 2014 at Sweetwater, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 19 days.

Thelma lived in Cheyenne until she was 12 years old when she moved with her family to Sevier County, Arkansas. She was married to J. M. Ashley at DeQueen, Arkansas on October 29, 1947. They moved to Cheyenne and remained there for several years. In 1950 they moved to Ft. Sumner, New Mexico… and later to Amarillo, Texas staying there until 1959. Thelma saved Gunn Brothers stamps and acquired enough to purchase a Bible which brought her to surrender her life to the Lord at the age of 21. She was concerned for J. M.'s relationship with God and she helped to bring him to the Lord. J.M. dedicated his life to the ministry and Thelma worked beside him for 56 years. They have been ministering at the Sweetwater Assembly of God Church for the past 28 years, where Thelma taught Sunday School and Children's Church as well as taking care of all the other duties that come with being a Pastor's wife.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Letha Moxley and Zola Clements, 2 brothers, Vernon and Harold Davis, a son-in-law, Tom Elroy, and a grandson, David Elroy.

She is survived by her husband, J. M., of the home; 3 daughters, Marolyn Bridges and husband, Farrell, Marlow, OK, Suzie Elroy, Marlow, OK, Denise Drake and husband, Wayne, Bartlesville, OK; 4 sons, Rickie Ashley and wife, Cathy, Denton, TX, John Ashley and wife, Suzanne, Stratford, TX, Steve Ashley, Nashville, AR, Thomas Ashley and wife, Miriam, Pryor, OK; 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, 3 sisters, Wynona Davis, Granite, OK, Elma Newcombe, Chandler, OK and Greta Sirmons, Justin, TX; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
