Annice Walling Sledge

Annice Walling Sledge, 92, of Duncan died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, in Duncan.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Craig Christina officiating. Burial will be in Duncan City Cemetery.

Visitation will begin Saturday morning and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Annice was born July 7, 1910, in Chickasha, to Kay and Annie Pearl Walling.

She married Olen Dean Sledge on Dec. 9, 1930, in Duncan. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1988.

Mrs. Sledge was an active businesswoman and with her husband operated Sledge Ranch, east of Duncan and Sledge Oil Company. Olen was a distributor for Phillips Petroleum for 40 years and upon his death, she continued to operate both the ranch and the oil business.

They were actively involved in horse racing and for many years operated the leading thoroughbred racing stable and were instrumental in the Remington Park development in Oklahoma City.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three nephews, Buster Walling of Potomac, Md., Gordon F. Cullum and Timothy Cullum, both of Dallas, Texas; and four nieces, Rudene West of Duncan, Gay Reagan of Wichita Falls, Texas, Earlene Knox of Dallas and Billie Bean of Alamogordo, N.M.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Buster Walling Sr.

Bearers will be George Sherrill, Mike Reynolds, Greg Shepherd, Brad Shepherd, Danny Sikes and Harold Bay. Honorary bearers are Truman West, Dr. Richard A. Ellis, Tom Goodner, Fieldon Parham, Dwayne Brittain, M.J. Lewis and Jim Byers.
