James David "J.D." Olds

James David "J.D." Olds of Duncan, OK was born August 26, 1934 in Perry, OK to Laura and Jack Olds. He was the youngest of 5 sons. He passed away December 9th in Duncan at the age of 79.

J.D. grew up in Countyline, OK and went to school in Velma. He then graduated from Midwest City, OK where he was a quarterback for the football team.

J.D. moved to Duncan and worked for Thorn Chevrolet.

He married Harla June Sparks in 1954 in Lawton, OK. They were blessed with two daughters; Kimberly Diane Johnson and Christie June Olds.

J.D. worked in the oilfield for Halliburton before going to work for Ron Lively Used Cars, a Buick dealership in Nocona, TX and Don Nutt Used Cars. He then moved to Wichita Falls, TX to work for Donald Birge Motors. He then went to work for Newby Ford in Henrietta, TX where he was very well known for his TV ads on Channel 6 and his "Market Place of the Southwest" logo. When he left Newby's, he had his own used car lot on Jacksboro highway and owned a line of car transport trucks. He then acquired Mr. Tex B-B-Que and also did catering (mostly to SAFB). J.D. returned to Duncan to partner with Don Nutt in Taylor Jet Boats. He later went back to Wishita Falls, TX after the boat franchise was dissolved and he merged with Donald Birge Oil. After Birge retired, J.D. started Kimleco Oil which later became Mobile Petro-Vac and then James D. Investments. He moved his business to Duncan and ran it successfully until his health forced him to retire.

With his grandchildren, he spent hours entertaining them, going to their school functions, enjoying seeing his grandson play golf and was always there for them. He was a loving father, grandfather and PaPa who will be missed.

He was an avid hunter and love to go quail and dove hunting with his dogs, Ace and Bing. He kept a place in Uray, CO for trout fishing and also went deer and pheasant hunting. J.D. was an active member of Ducks Unlimited.

He was a resident of Meridian Nursing Home at the time of his death.

He is survived by: 2 daughters-Kimberly Diane Johnson, Duncan; Christie June Olds, Duncan; 2 grandchildren-Clint Johnson, Austin, TX; Lindsye Boatman, Duncan; 2 sisters-Dorothy Boice, Duncan; Martha Ann Thompson, Yukon, OK; 1 brother-Charlie P. Olds, Duncan; His former wife, Harla June Olds.

He was preceded in death by: His parents His grandson, Jeremy Craig Olds, Several brothers and sisters.

Funeral service will be held Friday, December 13, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grantham Funeral Home Chapel in Duncan with Chaplain Tracey Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Crews Funeral Home, Apache.

There will be a Visitation on Thursday, December 12th at Grantham's from 5:30-7:30 P.M.
