John Thomas Little

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church in Duncan Monday for J. T. Little, age 95, father of Mrs. Annie Cornish of Healdton. Rev. J. E. Little, an uncle (nephew?), conducted the services, assisted by the pastor of the First Baptist church in Duncan and by Rev. Smith of the First Baptist church at Muskogee. Burial was in the Duncan cemetery with grandsons as pallbearers. Mr. Little passed away Saturday in a Chickasha hospital. He had been in declining health for some time. He made his home with his daughter in Healdton part of the time.

John Thomas Little was born Feb. 4, 1848 and died July 31, 1943.

He was married to Miss Eliza Harvell in 1892 and to this union were born ten children, three of whom preceded in death. Living children include J. E. and W. A. Little at Duncan; H. H. Little at Tulsa; daughters, Mrs. A. A. Lambert of Chickasha, Mrs. Burr Copeland of Duncan, Mrs. Effie Calhounof Los Angeles, and Mrs. Annie Cornish of Healdton. He is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

His companion passed away in 1909. The daughter in California was unable to attend the funeral.

He spent his entire life in southern Oklahoma, became a Christian at age 17, and united with the Baptist church. He was active in church work and Masonic lodge.

He served as county treasurer of Stephens County for two years.

Attending the funeral were the following members of the Cornish family: Mrs. Annie Cornish, Mrs. Lela O'Neal and daughters Jane and Anna Mary, Mr. and Mrs. John Cornish and Billy Bob, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cornish, Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Dunlapand family of Ardmore, and Mrs. Joe Wood of Shawnee.

John T. Little

John T Little, 95, Succumbs.

He Was First Treasurer of Stephens county.

John T. Little, first county treasurer of Stephens county, died Saturday afernoon in a Chickasah hospital after an illness of two days.

LIttle was born Feburary 4, 1848 in Blant (sic - Blount) county, Alabama, moved to Texas in 1868, and on to Indian Territory in 1891. He came to Stephens county in 1896.

Little was elected county treasurer in 1907, served one term and resigned. He was a a past master of the Velma Lodge A. F. & A. M., and a member of the first Baptist Church in Duncan.

The funral service will be held Monday at 2:30 pm at the First Baptist Church here with the Rev W S Nichols officiating, assisted by the Rev J E Little, a son. Burial will be in the Duncan Cemetery under the direction of the Beeson Grantham Funeral Home.

He is survived by three sons, W. A. Little, and J. E. Little of Duncan, and H. H. Little, Tulsa; four daughters, Mrs Annie Cornish, Healdon, Mrs A A Lambert, Chickasha, Mrs Effie Calhoun, Los Angeles, Calif, and Mrs Burl Copeland, Duncan: 31 Grand Children, and 4 great grand children.
