Sylvesta Marie [Cox] Kunselman

Marie Kunselman was born Sylvesta Marie Cox on January 23, 1934 in Clemscott, Oklahoma to Tom William and Annie Myrtle [Franks] Cox.

Marie was reared in Clemscott until she met a young army serviceman, Fred Kunselman. Marie and Fred were married on July 8, 1950 in Gainesville, Texas. To this union was born four children - Danny Fred, Tina Kae, Sharon Gae and Kevin Scott.

Following Fred's honorable discharge from the army, Marie moved frequently following her husband's work in the oilfield. She resided in Borger, Texas, Hobbs, New Mexico, Odessa, Texas and Casper, Wyoming before settling with her family in Woodward, Oklahoma. Marie and Fred moved into their home in Woodward one week before the big blizzard of February 1971.

Marie was an active member of Crown Heights Baptist Church in Woodward, teaching Sunday school, until health issues prevented her from attending.

Marie was employed as a CMA at Grace Living Center in Woodward for 10 years before retiring to care for her husband.

Marie was a loving, caring mother who enjoyed taking care of her children and giving to others whenever and wherever there was a need. The delights of her life were her husband, her children and two special grandsons, Chris and Aaron. Marie tremendously enjoyed spending time with her family, working in her yard and working puzzles.

Marie went home to be with her loving heavenly Father on Thursday, August 14, 2014 after a lengthy, hard fought battle with cancer. She died at her home surrounded by her family as was her wish.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Fred, her three year old son Danny Fred, sisters Doris and Janus. Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughters, Tina Kunselman Coats, Sharon Kunselman Evans, both of Woodward, her son Kevin Kunselman and his wife Denis, of Noble, Oklahoma, grandsons Christopher Aaron Coats of West Monroe, Louisiana, Aaron Daniel Evans of Woodward, granddaughters Heather Hancock, Ashlee Kunselman, and April Kunselman of Oklahoma City, two great grandchildren, Dana and Beth and seven great great grandchildren, sisters Betty Ann Lindsey of Midwest City, Oklahoma, and Wanda Joyce Fanning, of McCalister, Oklahoma, numerous other extended family members and friends.

Graveside services for Marie Kunselman were conducted on Monday August 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Duncan Municipal Cemetery in Duncan, Oklahoma under the direction of Shaw Funeral Home of Vici, Oklahoma.
