R.M. Hickey 88, Dies: Rites Today

Pioneer Hotel Man Succumbs After Long Illness

Rufus Morgan Hickey, 88, early day hotel operator, died Friday night in a local hospital, where he had been for two weeks. He had been in ill health all winter.

Hickey came to Indian Territory April 14, 1900, and for nearly 18 years managed the Duncan Hotel at 8th and Walnut.

After he left the hotel he was for a time in the taxi business before he retired. He lived at 1304 Oak.

He leaves three sons, John Hickey of Duncan, H. S. Hickey of Gainesville, Texas, L. F. Hickey of Fort Worth and five daughters, Mrs. Janie Carter and Mrs. Willis Bonner of Duncan, Mrs. Alice Rhyne of Enid, Mrs. Elmer Sisk of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Mrs. J. M. Kilgore of Frederick Okla. and a brother A. C. Hickey of Los Angeles, Ca.

Twenty-two grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren survive.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rangeley-Goodman Funeral Chapel at 2:30 this afternoon by the Rev. Fletcher S. Crowe, Methodist pastor and the Rev. J. J. Ward, Baptist Minister. Burial will be in Duncan Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be George Castle, I. J. Coffey, Dr. W. C. Hardin, W. A. Haraway, L. L. Humphreys and D. A. Fowler.

The body was taken to the Willis Bonner home, north of Duncan, where it will remain until time for the services.
