James Patrick Garis

James Patrick Garis, 53, of Duncan, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007 in Oklahoma City.

Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Assumption Catholic Church, celebrated by Rev. Donald J. Wolf. Arrangements are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home, Duncan. A memorial service at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

James "Jim" was born March 17, 1953, in Enid, OK to Robert Vincent and Dorris Cameron Garis. He was the ninth of 13 children and grew up in a close and loving family.

He graduated from Enid High School in 1971. He was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a B.B.A. and Oklahoma City University with a M.B.A.

He married Diane Maurer May 30, 1981. They made their home in Duncan from 1984 until present.

Jim entered the world of work at an early age. Work was one of his passions and he enjoyed every day of his years as president of M&M Supply Co. of Duncan, building the company from its single local location to a successful chain of oil field supply stores with 12 present locations. He served on the Board of Directors of Mack Energy Co. and Investors Trust Co. and as chairman of M&M Supply Co. He also served as chairman of Sooner Trailer Co. for a time. He currently served as chairman of the Board of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center. He was a past board member and chairman of Duncan Area Economic Development Foun-dation. He was passionate about his service with these two organizations and did his best to improve his community through them. He helped fund the addition of the Garis Gallery to the Heritage Center in 2005, and his western art collection is on display in that location.

Survivors include his wife, Diane and daughters, Mary Savannah and Caroline Patricia of the home; his father, Robert Vincent of Enid; three brothers, John of Enos, Joseph of Cement, and Jerome of Duncan; nine sisters, Judy and husband Elmer Allen of Paris, TX, Janet Garis of Enid, Joan Boyette of Enid, Jane and husband Andy Kesckes of San Diego, CA, Jeanne and Gail Batman of Vincenza, Italy, Jakita Haws of Enid, Jacinta and husband Tom Epperson of Oklahoma City, Jennifer Jones of Oklahoma City, and Julie and husband Mike Deweese of Collierville, TN; and many nieces and nephews.
