Alan James Howell, son of Ted James and Lela Doris (Goff) Howell, was born on June 28, 1954 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma and departed this life on Monday, December 19, 2016 in Sallisaw at the age of 62 years.
 

He graduated from Muldrow High School in 1972. Alan was involved in FFA throughout high school showing lambs and cattle. He was president of the FFA in 1972. Alan played football for Muldrow all three years at the positions of safety and receiver. He graduated from OSU in 1976 with a degree in general agriculture.
 

Alan married Rosemary Massey on March 14, 1978 in Bentonville, Ark. They set up residence in Springdale, Ark. for five years, working for Cargill Poultry Co. Alan and Rosemary moved to Westville in 1985 where Alan started farming. He served with the Westville Little League, Westville Public School Board and the Adair County Swine Breeders Association. He also coached little league baseball and softball. He attended Eastside Baptist in Sallisaw. Alan loved raising his children and volunteering with the Adair County Livestock Association and the Arkansas / Oklahoma State Fair in Ft. Smith, Ark. Alan was an active member of our communities and will be deeply missed.


He was preceded in death by his father, Ted Howell and a brother, Keith Howell.

Alan leaves behind a loving and devoted family that includes his wife, Rosemary Howell of the  home in Westville, mother, Lela Doris Goff Howell of Sallisaw, sons, Shannon Howell of Muskogee, Shane Howell and wife Kristi of Tulsa, daughter, Fawn Zahn and husband Brandon of Boling, Texas, granddaughter, Katie Howell, grandsons, Ryan Howell, Gage Zahn and Gunner Zahn, brother, Kenneth Howell and wife Jana of Emporia, Kan., sister-in-law, Elaine Howell of Muldrow, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Roberts & Hart Chapel, Westville, with Bro. Steve Rutherford officiating.

Interment to follow at Sallisaw City Cemetery, Sallisaw.
