Herman Lipe
Feb 10, 1924 - Jul 30, 2026
Herman Lipe passed away peacefully on July 30th, 2026 at 102 years old. Known to some as Herb, others as Dr. Lipe, others as Dad, and others yet as Papaw, Herman lived a long and full life and passed with family at his side. He was born on February 10th, 1924 to Lucy Virginia and Clark "Jake" Charlesworth II, and had an older brother, Clark Charlesworth III and younger sister Margaret Ann.
His early years were shaped by the Great Depression, and later World War II, for which he voluntarily enlisted in the navy the July after graduating from high school in 1943. Serving as seaman first class, Herman only further developed his traits of hard work and determination. Returning to high school at 22 for optional classes, he went on to graduate from the Southern College of Optometry in 1950.
Herman spent several decades in Tulsa, Oklahoma as an Optometrist with his own practice, during which time he met his wife of 62 years, Donna. The pair married in 1963, when Herman became stepfather to Donna's three daughters, and went on to have three children of their own. A man of determination, Herman didn't let bankruptcy stop him at 62; by 73, he had worked hard enough to retire after losing everything only eleven years earlier.
After retirement, Herman remained active, volunteering at the VA, attending church services at Harvard Avenue Christian Church, and spending ample time with his children and grandchildren. Herman is survived by three children, three stepchildren, three grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and five step-great grandchildren.
He had two sons and one daughter with his wife, Donna: Alan and Jennifer Lipe and step grandsons Connor and Cameron Fitschen; Laurie and Rob Glass and grandsons Garrison and Jared Glass; Jeff Lipe and granddaughter Alex Lipe. He was also stepfather to Donna's three daughters from a previous marriage: Dee Ann and David Campbell and step grandson Evan Campbell; Jan Manier and step grandsons Blake Rosell and Spencer Manier, and step-great grandchildren Chelsea Roberson, Regan and Blake Rosell, Abby and Ben Manier; Robin and Jim Tilly and step grandchildren Christopher and Kelly Green.
Visitation will be 4PM - 6PM, Thursday, August 6, 2026 at Moore's Southlawn, 9350 East 51st Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Memorial Service will be 3PM, Friday, August 7, 2026 at Harvard Avenue Christian Church, 5502 South Harvard Ave, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
