Lois Maxine West
December 11, 1932 - March 4, 2026
Lois Maxine Hunt-West (affectionally known as MeMa) was born in what was formerly called "Pryor Creek", Chelsea, Oklahoma on December 11, 1932 to parents Elton Hunt and Inez Martin-Hunt. After a tragic accidental death of her mother, she was primarily raised by her Grandfather "Daddy" Authur Martin and her Step-Grandmother "Sister" Jennie Downing. She loved them to no end.
She graduated from Attucks High School in 1952. She was married the love of her life, Edgar Herman Lee West, prior to his shipping off to join the Navy. Their love remained steadfast for 62 years. From this union the family tree began to produce much fruit (many offsprings).
After being a housewife for a few years, Lois began her work tenure in Vinita, OK. She first worked for Dr Barnes and his wife. She was a mother figure to their son Douglas Barnes and after the passing of his mother at a young age she stepped up even more. She then went on to work at what was formerly called Eastern State Hospital as a mental health aide. She was named employee of the year during her 30-year tenure which entailed going to Oklahoma City for a luncheon and meeting David Boren who was governor at the time. She was committed to excellence and her attention to detail was undeniable.
Lois was a serial entrepreneur and pursued many endeavors throughout the years. She worked hard but also enjoyed:shopping, cooking, entertaining and most importantly spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved decorating the house and dressing in costume for the holidays She also had a passion for baking.
She accepted the lord at a early age out at "Pryor Creek". She was studious student of the word and loved being with her father and mother in law Reverend George and Sophia West.
On the evening of March 5, 2026, an angel brought Lois a message of serenity and peace and her earthly journey ended. She was reassured that "everybody was home" . . . her nightly question.
Those gone before her to welcome her home are her loving husband Edgar Herman Lee, her precious daughter Marie, her beloved Uncle Jack and so many others.
Among those who loved her and are left on this side of the gateway to cherish her memory are Sons Grover and David, Daughter Jacqueline all of OK. Grandchildren: London, Lyndon, T.C., Jaleesa, Aneisha. Lois' grandchildren include Catrice, Jabar, Canisha, Siey-Raeq, Christopher, Christine, Shantel and Nathan. Her great-grandchildren include Miles, Jacoby, London Jr and Macsen. Her special cousin Laura May and her bonus son Douglas Barnes, beautiful sisters in love Eleanor (Elder Richard) Lacey(Arlington, Texas), Gwendolyn Lewis (Tulsa, OK), nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She along with Edgar loved and raised many children as foster parents,from babies to teens, through the years. She was a joyful, outgoing, never met a stranger, amazing and resilient woman.
Don’t think of her as gone away, her journeys just begun. Life holds so many facets; this earth is only one.
Just think of her as resting from the sorrows and the tears, in a place of warmth and comfort, where there are no days and years.
Think how she must be wishing that we could know today, how nothing but our sadness can really pass away.
And think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched, for nothing loved is ever lost and she was loved so much.
