Richard "Sterling" Killian
February 20, 1954 - August 12, 2024

Services to remember and celebrate the life of Richard "Sterling" Killian will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2024, at Cedar Point Church in Claremore. Burial will follow at Oowala Cemetery. Sterling passed away in Tulsa on Monday, August 12, 2024, with his wife and daughter at his side. He was 70.

Born in Bakersfield, CA on February 20, 1954, to Richard A. and Joan T. (Tucker) Killian. Sterling was raised and educated in Claremore and graduated from Claremore High School with the Class of 1972. On September 7, 1974, in Claremore, Sterling married the love of his life, Laina Luther. Their marriage was gifted with one daughter Richae. Sterling provided for his family operating his own business Sterling Dental Lab. He also used that business to benefit countless others by offering free dental services to those that couldn't afford it.

A man that was all about family. Sterling excelled at being a husband, father, and papa. According to Laina, Sterling treated her like a queen. But he was just following the instruction he found in God's Word on the role of being a husband and father. Christmas and birthdays were always special times where many lasting family memories were made. Sterling was a gifted musician. In his younger days he went by "Hank Killian", he had his own band and played all over the state of Oklahoma. He even had the distinct honor of playing on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. He also wrote music and has several recordings.

According to his family Sterling loved to joke around with people. The only draw-back was his very dry sense of humor, and many didn't realize it was his attempt at having a little fun with them. When free time did present itself, Sterling enjoyed superhero and old western movies. According to his family Superman and anything with John Wayne in it were his favorites.

A man that has touched countless lives all over the United States, has left a huge footprint and legacy that will live on in the lives of his family and friends. Sterling is survived by his wife of almost 50 years Laina, daughter, Richae Morton and husband Jeremy, grandchildren, Alexis, Hailey, and Avery Morton, brother, Rocky Smith, sister-in-law, Shirley Smith, brother-in-law, George Luther and wife Kathryn, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Sterling was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Michael Smith and Pat Killian and sister, Brenda Mitchell.
