A memorial service to celebrate and remember the life of Marcella Louise Dennis will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Oologah Church of Christ. Inurnment will follow at Oowala Cemetery in Claremore. Marcella passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Sunday, June 29, 2025. She was 80.
Marcella was born in Claremore, Oklahoma on August 11, 1944, to Charlie and Fleta (Hendricks) Shrum. She was raised on a dairy farm and graduated from Claremore Public Schools with the class of 1962. While in high school she would go shopping at Warehouse Market with her mother and Dan chose every opportunity to take their groceries to their car just so he could talk to her. They began dating and on July 26, 1963, in her parents' living room, Marcella married the love of her life, Dan Dennis.
After they had been married a short time, they decided to move to Anchorage, Alaska and both were able to find work immediately. They lived there 8 years and had wonderful adventures and made lifelong friends!
The union was gifted with two children while they were in Alaska: Alan and Dana. While they enjoyed the Alaska lifestyle, they decided to move back to Claremore, OK in 1973 so the children could grow up knowing their extended families. In the year 2000, she and Dan took their kids and grandkids back to Alaska to show them where they lived, traveling from Anchorage to many memorable cities along the route.
From 1998 to 2015, she and Dan lived on Grand Lake spending many hours fishing from her pontoon boat. Lake-life was very enjoyable but they moved back to Claremore in 2015 to be closer to family.
Marcella was employed through the years by working in clerical positions with Hesston, CRC Evans, and most recently with Claremore
Public Schools where she worked 31 years. From 1980 through 2007, she also enjoyed being a Shaklee Representative.
She enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, and other collectibles throughout her lifetime. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren a great deal and loved being "Grandma" and "Gigi" !
No story would be complete about Marcella unless you knew how much Church was important to her. Her Dad and Uncle actually built the Church of Christ on Muskogee Avenue in Claremore, Oklahoma. She absolutely loved getting together with family and being at her husband's side all the time was of great comfort and happiness to Marcella.
This beautiful, talented, and kind lady will be dearly missed and has left a legacy that will live on for years to come in the lives of her family and friends. Marcella is survived by her husband, Dan, her son Alan Dennis (Vickie), her daughter Dana Campbell (Doug), her sisters, Bea Brazeal and Earline Beam; grandchildren Megan Campbell (Sheldon), Adam Campbell (Amber), Bill Jones (Connie), Jeremy Jones (Erika); great grandchildren; Maci Campbell, Stormi and Spencer Mashburn, Eden Campbell, Hannah Jones and numerous Nieces and Nephews. Marcella is preceded in death by her parents, sister Lorene Murray and brothers-in-law Buck Murray, Paul Brazeal and Don Beam.
