Blanche "Joann" Coons
August 28, 1942 - January 24, 2025
Services to celebrate and remember the life of Blanche "Joann" Coons will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2025, at Bethel Holiness Church in Chelsea. Burial will follow at Oowala Cemetery in Claremore. Joann passed away in Tulsa at the Clarehouse on Friday, January 24, 2025. She was 82.
Born in Locust Grove, OK on August 28, 1942, to Fred Lawson and Dorothy Jane (Parker) Crisp. Joann was one of 10 children and was raised and educated in her birth community and graduated from Locust Grove High School. Joann married the father of her children Raymond Coons in Tulsa, OK. They were gifted with 2 children, Tracy and Malisa. Joann provided for her family working as a clerical secretary for Getty Oil, Texaco, Oral Roberts University, and retiring from the Tulsa County Court Clerks office.
A lady who's smile could light up a room, Joann was a strong determined woman. She did whatever she had to do to make sure her children were well taken care of. A compassionate individual, Joann was willing to help anyone in need. That same compassion was extended to animals as well and it didn't make a difference what kind, Joann fed anything and everything. According to her family her pets were recognizable by their weight. Joann liked the lake and some of her children's favorite memories were of them camping out. No one could make hamburgers and fried potatoes like Joann. Family reunions could always put a smile on her face and of course she would show up with her fruit salad and family favorite.
Joann had a great sense of humor and liked to laugh. She was a lefty her whole life and that was even passed down to her grandchildren. Her sisters remember her sending cards and they would always be signed mom's favorite. Her sisters remember another event in Joann's life when she almost drowned. Now funny to look back on, Joann always had long curly blond hair, and her sisters said that was all just floating on top of the water when she was rescued. Another favorite destination for Joann was Claremore Lake. Taking, of course, food for the ducks, Joann could make a whole afternoon of just being outside and enjoying the beauty of God's creations.
A lady that has left a legacy that will live on in the lives of her family and friends. Joann is survived by her children, Tracy Coons, Malisa Tyron and husband Paul, grandchildren, Jessica, Justin, Sarah and Samantha Tryon, brother, Norman Crisp, sisters, Evelyn Harris, Connie Webster and husband Larry, Donna Littlefield, Beverly Ingram and husband Ray, Brenda Alley, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Joann was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Dorothy Crisp, brother, Clifton Crisp, sisters, Mildred Thompson and Faye Priest, and father of her children, Raymond Coons.
