Lester D. Mullis Sr.
February 9, 1939 - March 29, 2025

Services to celebrate and remember the life of Lester Dale Mullis Sr. will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2025, at Chelsea Assembly of God. Burial will follow at Chelsea Cemetery where Lester will be laid to rest beside his parents. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 3-7 with family there to receive visitors. Lester came face to face with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 29, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was 86.

Born in Odin, Illinois on February 9, 1939, to Willis and Marie (Miller) Mullis. Lester was raised and educated in the Chelsea area and attended Catale and Chelsea Public Schools. On December 27, 1958, in Drumright, OK, Lester married the love of his life Wilma Osborne. Their marriage lasted for over 66 years. Always wanting a large family, not long after he and Wilma married, Lester stopped the car to allow a young mother with six children to cross the street, he looked at his wife and told her that will be you in a few years. God gave Lester the desire of his heart and their marriage was gifted with 5 children, Tammy, Terri, Sheryl, Kim, and Lester Jr. Lester provided for his family working in several different professions. He started as a carpenter, then a coal miner driving a D-9 dozer. Then in 1983 God called him to be a pastor; a calling that lasted for over 32 years. It was during this time that Lester went on mission trips to Haiti and Paraguay. There was one career that blanketed all the others and that was his passion for being a rancher. He loved his cattle and the many challenges of taking care of them.

A man that was always thinking. Lester always had one more task he needed to accomplish, he wanted everything done right and finished. In 1972 he built the family home located in rural Chelsea, and along with other church members; a new sanctuary at the church he was pastoring in Claremore. A definite people-person and having the charisma that just naturally drew people to him. Lester liked to fish and camp and was a long-time member of the Tulsa Bass Club. He liked to study and learn about Native American Culture and was sympathetic to the way they were treated throughout history.

A self-taught musician. Lester was an accomplished guitarist and country and western singer. He opened several shows for Porter Wagner and appeared on stage with Little Jimmy Dickens, as well as having his own show on the Chelsea and Vinita radio stations. Lester liked the sound of the steel guitar and was always drawn to that type of music. Family and the time they could all be together were important to Lester. He led by example many times with very few words. His family never had to doubt the love he had for each and everyone of them.

A man that has left an eternal legacy that will continue for generations to come. Lester is survived by his wife Wilma, children, Tammy Cosper, Terri Walker and husband Vernon, Sheryl Brown and husband Rodney, Kim Mullis, Lester Mullis Jr. and wife Janette, grandchildren, Robby Ford and wife Brandi, Laura Young, Ronny Sowersby, LeCricia Shelton and husband Bryce, Jessica Bollinger and husband Seth, Ashley Walker and husband Austin, Lezlie Brown, Stacie Brown and husband Ruben, Greg Brown and wife Katie, Alyssa Frazier and husband Matt, Sarah Harris and husband Austin, Brandon Mullis and wife Megan, Kyle Mullis and wife Talia, Michalla Erfurd and husband Corey, Cody Mullis and wife Delisha, and 26 great grandchildren. Lester was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Justin Walker, mother and father-in-law, Onie and Ruby Osborne, son-in-law, Fred Cosper.
