Born in Chelsea, OK on October 16, 1935, to Arthur Lee and Thelma Leona (Dick) Powell. Loretta was raised and educated in her birth community and attended Chelsea Public Schools. She continued her education at the University of North Carolina where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree. Loretta was the mother of four children, Ralph, Jeanine, Randy, and Lori. She provided for her family working at Eastern State Hospital until her retirement as an EEG and EKG technician. That career lasted for over 30 years. On September 11, 1971, in Miami, OK Loretta married Keith L. Melton.

A lifelong Chelsea resident, in her younger days worked at the Rexall Drug store on main street. Loretta had a wide variety of interests. According to her family she loved the outdoors and would spend countless hours sitting on her back patio watching the birds, squirrels, flowers and anything else that might have found its way in her backyard. She liked dogs and especially schnauzers. Her favorite schnauzer was Pepper, and he gave her countless hours of entertainment as well as companionship. In her school days she enjoyed playing basketball for the Green Dragons and even went on to play for the Arkansas Travelers. Loretta liked to read and watch old westerns. Not really being much of a traveler, her family did take her on a couple of trips, one being to Las Vegas and the other to Washington D.C.

A lady that has left a legacy that will last for generations to come. Loretta is survived by her children, Ralph(Charlotte) Doolittle, Jeanine Goodson, Randy(Sherri) Doolittle, and Lori(Rico) Rosendo, grandchildren, Jamie(Roger) Starling, Christopher(Cristine) Smith, Jason(Leann) Goodson, Josh(Mary) Goodson, Amber(Matt) Dawson, Chase Pritchett, Justin Doolittle, Trey Doolittle, Angelina(Keith) Dunn, Miguel(Eilise) Rosendo, great grandchildren, Scott, Zach, Abby, Lexi, Rooke, Ellah, Sturgill, Henry, Alice, Cecilia, Solomon, and Romee, great great grandchild, Audrey, brother, Dean Powell, sister, Lura(Larry) Barber, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
