Robert M. McGill
September 1, 1931 - February 3, 2025

A graveside service to celebrate and remember the life of Robert M. McGill will be held at 11:00 am. Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Chelsea Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday at the funeral home from 3 pm-7 pm, with family there to receive visitors from 5 pm-7 pm. Robert passed away at the Oklahoma Veterans Home in Claremore surrounded by his family on Monday, February 3, 2025. He was 93.

Born in Wagoner, OK, on September 1, 1931, to Oscar Samuel and Mary Ellen (Hamilton) McGill, Robert was raised in the Talala area and attended Talala schools where, in the fourth grade, he met Norma Jean Hart, the one he knew would someday be his wife. They married on December 22, 1952, by a Justice of the Peace in Miami, OK, because she refused to wait until Robert returned from Korea. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Keith, Linda, and Kevin, and lasted over 70 years until her passing in 2022. Robert served in the United States Air Force, beginning with the Korean Conflict in 1952, until his separation in 1964.

When he returned to Oklahoma, Robert moved his family to Chelsea, the community he called home for the rest of his life. Robert provided for his family by working at American Airlines as a jet engine mechanic until his retirement.

A man that was all about family, Robert enjoyed the times his family could all be together. A man of few words, Robert led by example. Perhaps one of the greatest parts of his legacy was his love for his wife and how it was shown. They were always together, holding hands most of the time. Where you saw one you could be sure the other one wasn't far behind. Some would say it was because Jean needed a driver, but more likely, they just enjoyed being together. Just as he did as a father, Robert excelled at being a Papa. He had a close and unique relationship with each of his grandchildren and never missed a graduation or wedding.

When free time did present itself, Robert filled his days with the simple pleasures of life. He liked to fish and on most occasions, it was done from the bank, because he would get sea sick if he was in a boat. Robert was an avid gardener and had a huge vegetable garden. He shared the fruit of his labor with his family and friends. He did his own yard work and until his health started to decline, he could be seen push mowing his yard. Robert liked music, but according to his family it had to be bluegrass with a little bit of old country mixed in.

A man that has left not only a legacy but a lasting example of how to be a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Robert is survived by his children, Keith McGill and wife Sharon, Linda Prock and husband Les, Kevin McGill and wife Paula, Sue Long and spouse Kathy Shewmaker, grandchildren, Jeremy McGill and wife Angie, Devin Prock and wife Shaundell, Courtney Nichols and husband Casey, Aaron Prock and wife Meagan, Zach McGill, Kevin McGill Jr. and wife Angela, Rachel Golden and husband William, Amanda Jones and husband David, Joel Crouch and wife Kelley, 21 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; sisters, Pauline McMahan, Margaret Nolan; brother, Jerry McGill and wife Glenda; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; sisters, Lucille Rice, Betty Mae Cook, Darlene Maggard; and daughter-in-love, Joella Crouch.
