George Marland Scott Jr. was born on November 6, 1872 in Jewett, Leon County, Texas and passed away in the Cheyenne Municipal Hospital in Cheyenne, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years and 5 months.

In 1894 he was married to Agnes Ruby Little at Weatherford, Texas.

In 1897 he moved to western Oklahoma where he homesteaded a farm six miles north of Cheyenne. There he lived until just a few months before his death.

He left surviving him five children, Edna Durham of Coldwell, Idaho; Loy, Herman, Arthur and Claude all of Cheyenne; thirteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. J. E. Vincent of Cheyenne; Mrs. D. H. Arnold of Denver City, Texas; Mrs. W. L. Sipple, Klamath Falls, Oregon; as well as other relatives and numerous friends.

His wife and one son, Clyde preceded him in death.

He accepted Christ as his personal Saviour many years ago in Texas and was a long time member of the Baptist Church of Strong City. He was noted for his great knowledge of the Bible.

"Uncle George" as he was affectionately known by his many friends, was a man of a kind and generous heart who loved his neighbors and his fellow man. His home was always open to the early day farmers and ranchers who were driving their cattle to market. There they stopped to spend the night for they knew they was always welcome and that their herd of cattle would be cared for.

He was always a leader in his community and in Roger Mills County and until the time of his death took great interest in the political and national problems of our nation.

In his passing Roger Mills County has lost one of its greatest pioneer citizens. He added to the sum of human knowledge and at his death left this world a better place in which to live.

Interment was in the Strong City Cemetery, Strong City, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.
